Wilton Free Public Library is located in the foothills of western Maine, alongside Wilson Stream in downtown Wilton. The library freely serves the communities and citizens of Wilton, Dryden, East Wilton, and East Dixfield, and welcomes membership to residents beyond this service area for a nominal yearly fee. The library was incorporated in 1901 as The Wilton Free Public Library Association, and found a permanent home in 1914 at 6 Goodspeed Street. Although it is significantly subsidized by the Town of Wilton, the library remains a private, non-profit corporation.
Wilton Free Public Library creates and provides free and open access to resources for education, entertainment, and enrichment to the citizens of Wilton, Maine. Modern and traditional library services include lending materials both physical and digital, presenting programming for all and intermixed ages, maintaining public access computers and high speed Wi-Fi, and providing multi-use physical space for user-led activities without monetary expectation. The library strives to create and foster positive community connections by being a central hub for our small, rural town.
